Why These Still Deserve Tracking

A visitor who is not ready to buy today rarely disappears for good; they often take a smaller action first, downloading a guide, saving a product, watching a demo. Tracking only hard conversions misses this entire group and can make a campaign look like it failed when it actually moved a lot of people partway there.

The Trap of Over-Counting Them

The flip side is treating soft conversions as equal to real sales in a report. A hundred newsletter signups is not the same win as ten purchases, and blending them into one conversion number without separating soft from hard makes performance look better than it actually is. We report soft and hard conversions separately, with soft conversions framed as pipeline, not results.

What Turns a Soft Conversion Into a Hard One

The soft conversions worth the most investment are the ones with a built-in next step, an email sequence after a signup, a retargeting list built from video viewers, since the soft action only pays off if there is a plan to follow up on it. A soft conversion with no follow-up is just a data point, not a step toward an actual sale.
